Scholarships

Are you interested studying at James Cook University or other universities in Australia under scholarships? You can try the scholarships that fall under AusAID (e.g. ADS and ALA); the website is http://www.ausaid.gov.au/scholar/default.cfm. For the Endeavour Postgraduate Awards scholarship you should look at http://www.endeavour.deewr.gov.au/international_applicants. Some more infos about the different scholarships are below (compiled by Ms Katherine Elliot, International Student Center, James Cook Universities).
Australian Development Scholarship (ADS)
To obtain information about AusAID and the ADS program please contact the AusAID Post located in Jakarta. Their contact details are:

The usual process involves the following:
1. Student contacts AusAID Post to obtain details of the scholarship application process
2. Student completes ADS application and forwards to Post for assessment.
3. AusAID Post reviews application to determine eligibility.
4. If successful, AusAID Post forwards student's application to institution
5. Institution reviews application, and if successful, makes the student an offer to study.
6. If student accepts the offer, a confirmation of acceptance letter is sent from the AusAID Post to the institution
(Please note that having a JCU Letter of Offer will not increase the chances of your ADS application being approved.)
Australian Leadership Award (ALA)
The ALA scholarship is intended for those who are already leaders or have the potential to assume leadership roles that can influence social and economic policy reform and development outcomes, both in their own countries and in the Asia-Pacific region. An ALA Scholarship enables candidates to undertake studies leading to a Masters or Doctorate degree in Australia. Awards are open to all fields of study, however, study programs that relate to the priority themes of international trade, pandemics, security and climate change, including clean energy are encouraged. Selection for ALA Scholarships is highly competitive, based on leadership qualities and on academic excellence. Applicants must have high levels of undergraduate or post-graduate academic achievement and advanced English language ability.
In order to apply for an ALA applicants must have already applied to an Australian university and have received an Unconditional Letter of Offer. JCU Admissions procedures can be viewed at: http://www.isc.jcu.edu.au/applyingtostudy.cfm

Please note that applications to study in 2010 open from March 19 2009 to June 30 2009.
Endeavor Postgraduate Awards
This scholarship provides financial support to undertake a postgraduate qualification at a Masters or PhD level either by coursework or research in any field of study in Australia.
